Happy New Years, everyone! Today, we have for you a very special episode that first aired over thirteen years ago: Episode 118, a one-hour Hattori special! This classic has long been a fan-favorite and we are glad to bring it to you today, at the DCTP standard!

This episode has special meaning to me, personally, as well. Some of you likely already know this, but this was the first episode that I ever fansubbed, all those years ago. In fact, the last time that I worked on this episode… was 6 years and 8 months ago! It was quite nostalgic to go at it one more time, so I hope those that were around back then will enjoy it even more this time around.

2011 may just now be coming to an end, but we already have big plans for 2012. In addition to releasing every new weekly manga file and anime episode, as usual, we intend to continue our re-subbing efforts on both the old episodes and the movies in HD. We also plan to continue work on the Conan vs. Kindaichi game for Nintendo DS, which is coming along nicely. Beyond that, you can expect a special one-off manga from us in January (one of which we intended to release this week, but still need a little more time with). We’ll also be opening another poll soon to decide one of our next re-sub projects, so please check back shortly and give us your input.

Nonetheless, this release marks the end of the inaugural Big Release Week, with eight releases in seven days. We had a lot of fun working all of these releases out and hope you’ve had a good time watching them over the past week. The DCTP staff will be taking a one-week break from all projects beginning today (given that we have already released the next manga file and the anime is on break this week as well). Thanks for all the support this year, we truly appreciate it!

Last year, the plan was to release the final batch of episodes along with Kienai and AZFS in a Big Release Day for the ages. Unfortunately, life felt like intervening and the original plan never came to fruition. With that said, it is now my pleasure to announce that DCTP has now released all of their remaining old episodes–of the ten remaining, these were all in which we had a stake. That means we are now down to just 4 episodes left. Out of 602 episodes, we only have 4 left to go before they are all subbed. The remaining 4 episodes are all Kienai and AZFS episodes, but we will be offering assistance at every turn to ensure that they are released as soon as possible.

We have come an incredibly long way at this point, but “teamwork” was always the name of the game. That is why I am proud to announce that, once the final 4 episodes are released, the folks at AZFS (our partners on this case’s release) will be joining us at DCTP as we continue doing our best to bring everyone Conan at the highest quality possible. Now, you may be wondering why this would be necessary after all of the episodes are subbed. Well, the answer is clear: Even though the canon may be done once, that doesn’t mean it’s done for good. There are episodes that members of the team have worked on in the past with our older teams that we think can be updated to our current standard, given that we have infinitely greater resources than we once did. In short, we’ll keep doing the new manga files and the new anime episodes weekly as we have for years now, but don’t expect us to suddenly neglect the older episodes. The releases of lower quality will be re-released in the future, until we have a full canon that will withstand the test of time.

Now, as for the image you may have seen in the last update, many of you no doubt recognized it right away. You may have also taken note of it being in much higher quality than how you remember it, which is understandable considering that it is from the recently-released Blu-ray edition of Movie 8. Some are already out, but Movies 7-14 will all gradually be made available on Blu-ray over the coming months, and as they do, we will begin working on them to deliver the best releases we can in full 1080p. The first release will be Movie 8, as we figured that was the one virtually everyone holds some sort of affection for. Hopefully you will look forward to it and the others!

For our fifth and sixth episodes of the day, we’re going with something many of you likely didn’t expect. These are the two episodes that were remastered over the past two weeks (during the new episode airbreak), and we had conveniently just done this case not too long ago. After seeing how beautiful a remaster it was, we decided we just had to release it. This is presented in 720p HD, and there will not be an SD version. For collectors or even just people wanting to experience this classic case one more time, this is definitely worth giving a download. Enjoy and feel free to discuss this release and those to come here on the forums!

The games continue now with 243-244, which just so happens to be the final manga case to be released. There are now only six episodes left to be subbed, and they are all anime originals.
